Where Jaltest fits in a mixed-equipment shop

Jaltest is Cojali's multi-brand diagnostic platform. Its appeal is practical: a shop working on several truck or equipment makes can organize much of its diagnostic work around a common interface and software environment. The right purchase depends on what comes through your bays. A commercial truck shop, a construction contractor and a forklift service business need different coverage even when the cases and laptops look similar.

Start with your recent work orders. Separate trucks and trailers from construction machines, agricultural equipment and material handling. Then list the jobs you want to finish: diagnosing an aftertreatment complaint, checking a hydraulic controller, testing an actuator or completing a component calibration. That gives you a useful basis for comparing packages and avoids paying for an environment you rarely use.

CV, OHW, AGV, MHE and Marine: choosing coverage

Jaltest CV is the commercial-vehicle environment for supported trucks, buses, trailers and light commercial vehicles. Cojali also offers distinct OHW, AGV, MHE and Marine environments. The interface is one part of the system; the purchased activations determine which equipment segments you can access.

• Truck and trailer repair: start with CV and check the controllers and tasks that matter to your shop, including trailer connections.
• Construction and mixed equipment: compare an OHW package with a CV/OHW combination if you also service the trucks transporting the machines.
• Agricultural work: identify tractors, combines and other machines separately when considering AGV. Engine coverage alone may not answer a transmission or implement complaint.
• Forklifts and warehouse equipment: use the MHE package as the starting point, with the equipment make, model and controller identified.
• Marine service: request the appropriate Marine configuration. A truck kit does not become a marine kit simply by adding a connector.

The interface, laptop and vehicle cables

A working system has four pieces: licensed software, a compatible computer, the vehicle interface and the correct cables. The laptop runs the diagnostic application; the interface communicates with the machine; the cable provides the appropriate physical connection. A missing or incorrect cable can prevent an otherwise suitable system from doing the job you bought it for.

For a shop with an existing Jaltest system, record the interface serial number before ordering another package. Review the computer and cables you already own. A renewal, an additional environment and a complete second kit solve different needs. For a second technician, plan the complete usable workstation and license arrangement rather than assuming another laptop creates another working tool.

For a mobile service truck, compare portability, charging arrangements, storage for the cable set and the laptop's condition. For a fixed bay, consider screen visibility and how the interface will be connected during the intended procedures. Follow the applicable manufacturer connection instructions for programming or other operations where an interrupted connection matters.

Reading faults, running tests and finishing a repair

Think about diagnostic capability in stages. Reading a fault tells you what a controller reported. Live data helps you examine operating conditions. A supported active test commands a component or system. A service routine may be needed after replacing a part. These are separate capabilities; a coverage entry for the vehicle should be checked against the particular operation.

For example, a shop buying a tool to read a truck's engine faults has a different requirement from a shop buying it to complete a specific injector or aftertreatment procedure. Write the second requirement into the quote. This is more useful than a general promise that the tool performs every function on every truck.

Save the initial scan and relevant operating data before clearing faults. Use the equipment's service procedure to interpret the results and verify the repair. A successful code clear or regeneration is one observation in that process; it does not establish why the original complaint occurred.

Software renewal, technical information and support

Compare the diagnostic activation, updates, technical information and support included in each quote. They should be identified clearly so you know what is included now and what you may need to renew. Cojali's licensing FAQ says operation after the annual license expires depends on the license type. A blanket promise that every kit either stops completely or works forever would be misleading.

Keep the activation email, interface serial number, account owner and renewal dates with your shop's equipment records. When a laptop is replaced or a technician leaves, those records make it easier to arrange the appropriate installation or license assistance. Downloading software is only one part of getting an existing system ready for work.

Jaltest alongside JPRO, TEXA and OEM software

Choose a multi-brand platform by the equipment and functions you need, then compare its repair information, hardware and renewal costs. JPRO and TEXA are alternatives worth comparing for relevant applications. A useful comparison is a list of your actual jobs and the verified coverage for each; unsupported percentages of “dealer-level coverage” do not tell you whether you can finish tomorrow's repair.

A shop can also combine a multi-brand system with a focused OEM application. If a recurring job requires a particular manufacturer's programming access, identify that separately from routine diagnostics. Do not assume that purchasing Jaltest supplies all external OEM subscriptions, calibration downloads or account permissions.

Building a package around your shop

For a truck-focused independent shop, compare the CV package against your trailer and medium-duty workload. For a contractor maintaining both excavators and road trucks, price the relevant combined coverage and cables together. For a forklift specialist with a suitable laptop, compare the MHE hardware/software package with the Toughbook option. A larger bundle is worthwhile when you can identify the additional work it enables.
