JPRO vs Jaltest
Honest 2026 Comparison | HDT
JPRO and Jaltest are the two strongest aftermarket multi-brand diagnostic platforms in 2026 North American HD service. Most shops can only afford one. The honest answer of which to buy depends on a small number of questions about your bay — not on which is “better.” We sell both. Here’s how we tell customers to decide.
The 30-second version
- JPRO Professional (Noregon) — best Cummins, Detroit, and PACCAR depth among aftermarket platforms. On-highway focused. Polished software. The default pick for a Class 6-8-only truck shop.
- Jaltest CV (Cojali) — broadest coverage on the market (214+ commercial, off-highway, ag, marine, MHE makes). The default pick for a multi-brand shop that also sees yard tractors, trailers, ag equipment, or off-highway gear. We’re authorized Jaltest.
If you only see Class 6-8 highway trucks → JPRO. If you also see anything that doesn’t roll on a paved road → Jaltest. The rest of this guide is the detail behind that.
Coverage
Brand breadth
Jaltest wins on raw breadth — 214+ commercial vehicle makes plus off-highway, agricultural, marine, and material-handling brands through one platform. Cojali markets this as “all-makes” and they earn it. If your bay sees European HD (Volvo, Mack, Mercedes, MAN, Scania, Iveco), Korean / Chinese commercial gear (Doosan, Hyundai), CASE, JCB, Kubota, Yanmar, Hitachi, Komatsu construction equipment — Jaltest covers it.
JPRO is purpose-built for North American on-highway Class 6-8: Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, Volvo, Mack, International, Cat. Off-highway is limited. Ag is essentially absent. JPRO’s coverage on the brands it covers is deeper than Jaltest’s, but the brand list is shorter.
Cummins depth
JPRO is the closest aftermarket platform to OEM-level Cummins diagnostic depth. Cummins X15, ISX, ISB, ISC, B6.7 — JPRO reads, runs comprehensive bidirectional tests, captures live data, and triggers forced regens at a depth that consistently rivals INSITE Pro for fault diagnosis (without the reflash capability).
Jaltest’s Cummins coverage is competent but a half-step behind JPRO. You can read codes, force regens, and access the major bidirectional tests — but the deepest Cummins-specific parameter pulls (rail pressure command/actual at high resolution, injector trim values, calibration metadata) are JPRO’s stronger lane.
Detroit / Freightliner depth
JPRO and Jaltest both cover Detroit DD13/DD15/DD16 well. JPRO has a slight edge on chassis-side coverage (Cascadia and Western Star body control modules, ABS, retarder integration). Jaltest covers Detroit engines and most chassis well.
PACCAR (Kenworth / Peterbilt)
JPRO is deeper. PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engine coverage on JPRO consistently goes further than Jaltest, especially on aftertreatment and transmission integration. Neither matches Davie4 or Davie5 for full reflash and PACCAR chassis programming, but for diagnostic work on PACCAR, JPRO is the stronger aftermarket choice.
European / off-highway / ag
Jaltest dominates. Multi-brand European HD coverage (Volvo, Mack, Mercedes, MAN, Scania, Iveco) is a Jaltest strength. Off-highway construction equipment (Doosan, Hitachi, Komatsu, JCB, CASE) requires the Jaltest OHW license but is comprehensive. Agricultural (John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Kubota) requires the AGV license. JPRO doesn’t compete here.
Hardware
Jaltest Link V9
The Jaltest hardware is the Link V9 — a wired/USB and Bluetooth datalink adapter that’s been Cojali’s standard for several generations. The Link V9 pairs with one Jaltest license at a time but the license travels with the Link if you have multiple laptops. Solid build quality. Bluetooth range is real-world ~30 ft. Lifetime hardware reputation is good — Link V9s in the field for 5+ years are still working.
Noregon DLA+ 3.0 XBT
JPRO’s current adapter is the DLA+ 3.0 XBT — Bluetooth and USB, lighter than Link V9, faster boot time. Noregon designed it for road-call mobility. The DLA+ 3.0 supersedes the older DLA+ 2.0 (still in the field but the 3.0 is the current standard). Build quality is excellent.
Adapter universality
Both platforms can pair with NEXIQ USB-Link 3 as an alternate adapter, which is helpful as a backup or for shops that already own a USB-Link 3. Neither platform locks you to a single adapter brand.
Software UX
JPRO — modern, symptom-driven
JPRO’s interface is the more modern of the two. The NextStep Repair guidance is the standout feature — start with a symptom (no power, derate, false regen, etc.) and JPRO’s software walks the technician through next-best tests based on aggregated data from real shops. Reduces diagnostic time on common problems significantly. The data displays are clean and current-feeling.
Jaltest — dense, technical, comprehensive
Jaltest’s interface is denser and more European-engineering in feel. Lots of menus, lots of options, lots of data fields visible at once. The learning curve is steeper than JPRO. Once you’re past the curve, the depth of access is excellent — Jaltest exposes more raw parameters and more granular component tests than JPRO does. Senior diesel techs who like to drive the diagnostic process tend to prefer Jaltest. Newer techs tend to prefer JPRO’s guided UX.
Licensing and subscription
Jaltest CV licensing
Jaltest licenses are region-locked. The North American CV (commercial vehicle) license covers the trucks and trailers you’ll see in a US shop. Off-highway (OHW), agricultural (AGV), marine, and material-handling equipment (MHE) are separate add-on licenses. The license is locked to the Link V9 hardware, so you can move it between laptops but not between Links. Three software updates per year via Cojali. Renewal pricing is roughly 60-70% of initial license cost.
JPRO licensing
JPRO Professional is a single annual subscription that covers everything JPRO supports. No separate region or vertical-market licenses to manage. License is laptop-locked at activation. Subscription renewals run roughly 60-75% of initial cost. Multi-seat fleet pricing available.
Support and updates
Both companies have legitimate technical support. Cojali’s support is European-headquartered with North American distributors (us included for North American customers). Noregon is US-based, which gives JPRO an edge on response time during US business hours. Update cadence is similar (3-4 per year). Both are stable, well-maintained platforms.
Pricing — real-world budget
| Component | JPRO Professional | Jaltest CV |
|---|---|---|
| Initial software license | $5,000-$7,000 | $4,000-$6,000 (CV only) |
| Hardware adapter | $1,000-$1,400 (DLA+ 3.0 XBT) | $900-$1,200 (Link V9) |
| Annual renewal | $3,000-$4,500 | $2,500-$3,500 (CV only) |
| Off-highway / ag add-on | Not available | +$1,000-$2,500/year per license type |
| Toughbook bundle (optional) | +$2,000-$4,000 | +$2,000-$4,000 |
Out-the-door for a Toughbook-bundled JPRO kit: $7,500-$11,000. Out-the-door for a Toughbook-bundled Jaltest CV kit: $7,000-$11,500.
Jaltest’s total price often runs higher when you stack the OHW and AGV licenses for shops that need them — but JPRO doesn’t compete in those markets at all, so it’s not really a price comparison so much as a coverage comparison.
Real-world recommendations by shop type
Class 6-8 on-highway truck shop, no off-highway / ag
JPRO Professional. Deeper Cummins / Detroit / PACCAR coverage, simpler licensing, modern UX. Pair with INSITE Pro for the dominant engine and you have a complete stack.
Mixed-equipment shop (trucks + yard tractors + trailers + ag)
Jaltest CV with relevant add-on licenses. Nothing else covers this market with comparable breadth. Cojali built Jaltest specifically for shops like yours.
European HD specialist
Jaltest CV for the multi-brand European load. Pair with Volvo PTT or Mack PTT (the OEM stack) for whichever brand dominates your work. TEXA IDC6 Truck is also a strong contender here — see our scan tool comparison.
Mobile diagnostic / road-call business
JPRO with the wireless DLA+ 3.0 XBT. Bluetooth adapter portability matters more than the broadest coverage on a road call.
Marine / powersports / construction equipment heavy
Jaltest CV with the marine, MHE, or OHW licenses. Cojali’s coverage in these niches is unmatched at this price point.
Mixed but unsure
Print the last 30 work orders. If 25+ are on-highway Class 6-8, JPRO. If even 5-6 are off-highway, ag, marine, or specialty trailer work, Jaltest.
What if I want both?
Some larger shops run JPRO for daily on-highway diagnostic depth and Jaltest for everything else. The cost stacks up — figure $13,000-$18,000 initial and $5,500-$8,000 annual recurring — but for shops with 6+ technicians and high diagnostic volume, the time saved on tricky multi-brand work pays back quickly. Most independent shops don’t need both. Pick one and use it well.
